Breaking: Election tribunal upholds Obaseki’s election as Edo gov

The Edo Election Petition Tribunal, on Friday upheld the election of Mr Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as governor of Edo.
Edo state Governor and his Deputy jubilating                                            with APC supporters
Delivering the judgment, Justice Ahmed Badamasi-led three member tribunal, dismissed the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu as lacking in merit.
Badamasi held that the petitioners failed in all fronts to prove the allegations as pleaded in their petitions.
“The petitioners have failed to prove their case with credible evidence and is therefore dismissed,’’ he said.
The tribunal held that while the petitioners abandoned some of their pleadings, “witnesses evidences were controverted under cross examination’’.
“The much talked about ticking and over voting by the petitioners have not be specifically proved beyond reasonable doubts.
“And not calling witnesses to prove their allegations of corrupt practices and over voting was fatal to their case and is deemed to have abandoned their pleadings,’’ he held.
Badamasi therefore held that “the petitioners have failed to prove their case with credible evidence to show that they are entitled to their pleadings’’.
“Accordingly, the petition has failed and is hereby dismissed,’’ he said.
The petitioners had listed INEC, Obaseki and the APC as first, second and third respondents.
Ize-Iyamu had asked the tribunal to nullify the election of Obaseki and declare him winner, having scored majority of the lawful votes cast among other reliefs.
He avvered that INEC was wrong to had declared Obaseki winner of the Sept. 28 governorship election.
Ize-Iyamu also alleged that the election was fraught with corrupt practices and over voting.
He added that INEC did not comply with the relevant provisions of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) in the conduct of the said election.

A WALK DOWN THE FACULTY OF LAW(TIPS TO EXCEL WITHOUT DIFFICULTY)PART3

SOC101
Taken by Mr.ajir, straight forward and one of the most technical courses you will offer in your year1. THINGS TO NOTE;
§  Buy his book (introduction to sociology) because no hand out is as important as the book, no question will come outside the book, all his questions will come from the book. his test is mostly structural, for the help of those who don’t understand what structural is:
§  DEMIAN IS THE__________OF__________LEVEL, FACULTY OF ______________(course reps,100,law)…if you mistakenly cancel any word(answer) while writing, you will fail that question, so you need to be careful no matter how you find the questions simple, don’t be in a haste, gra gra is not needed here, be careful and the answer must be spelt correctly.
Keep yourself posted to this blog for his past questions.
POL101
Taken by Prof. Sorkaa, the former VC of Benue State University. He is the former vc, he knows almost everything relating to academics in B.S.U so you need to be careful.
He doesn’t find it offensive sketching marks for students who don’t take academics serious. Very technical, he mostly gives an assignment a week to his test and the assignment is submitted on test day, the test question is mostly in similarity with the question of the assignment. That is why you need to make sure the assignment is done by you or even if you aided by someone, you understand what he/she has done for you so on the Test day, you won’t find difficulties. He hates copy and paste work. Test is normally essay.
TEST; 20marks
ASSIGNMENT; 20marks
EXAMS; 60marks
SOC105:
Partly history, just like current affairs, but don’t even think of missing the lectures, his notes is what you will see in exams. Develop the habit of taking notes during lectures and reading them without hesitation. Test is OBJ, exam is OBJ.. if there is going to be any changes, he will let you know about it.

PSY101
Psychology is a very technical department that if you are offering any course and you don’t take it serious, you will have issues. Check this out:
§  The mostly don’t write Test: exams is marked over 100.
§  You can’t find an accurate material (hand outs) in the labor market; you have to attend lectures to keep to date on notes.
§  More than one lecturer will take you guys on different topics in the course which means exams will be set by different persons.
§  You have to read not to cram but understand because their questions are twisted.

§  Make use of past questions.

A WALK DOWN THE FACULTY OF LAW(TIPS TO EXCEL WITHOUT DIFFICULTY)PART2

It is no longer news that you are a law student and your friends and family members now call you Barrister-Lawyer, it’s wonderful…it is still no news that you will spend 5years in school unlike your mates in other departments who are aiming 4years. Now let’s work it out using statistics;

100level is a class where you will have to root yourself up well (build your G.P) because as you proceed higher, it gets hotter and automatically, your G.P begins to drop. If your G.P wasn’t built well in your 100level, you will experience difficulties. In most cases, students experience “G.P FINISH”, this is when their G.P can no longer be counted, there are no more left with options than;

§  Either the leave the department to another department
§  Are withdrawn from school
§  Or manage to reach 500level; in a case where you manage to reach 500level and you are yet to cover up your T.C.E, you will be left with no option than to spill for a period of two more years, making it 7years in school, don’t forget you will still be paying fees for that two years. if you can’t cover up your T.C.E after the period of two years, you will be advice to withdraw which is the polite way of the university telling you to pack your load and go. Instead of receiving a certificate, you will rather receive a hand shake.T.C.E for law is 194 while for other departments is 164…so you see, you need to hard work. The departmental handbook issued to you will cover the full explanations of how to calculate your T.C.E and G.P.

LEGAL METHODS:
This course is a 2credit load course taken by Mr. Raphael okplogidi and headed by prof. J.N. Samba. It is very important you take this course serious, pardon me to say more and very serious because it is your foundation in the legal profession. Don’t just read and study it because you need an A… read and study it because you yearn to know it’s contents. What it’s all about, I mean the in and out of it.
Your level of understanding in this course guarantees your level of understanding as you proceed. As a matter of concern, it’s pertinent to note that law courses are interwoven and what you are doing today In this course is what you will do even when you are practicing. If you have legal methods in your hand, have it in mind you will excel without much stress in your legal system, legal profession and partly constitutional law all in your 200level…mind you, this are 3powerful courses I’m talking about.
§  You have to develop the skills of answering questions using law terminologies (the legal language, words).

§  Develop the habit of asking lectures questions where you find issues confusing or not clear….

A WALK DOWN THE FACULTY OF LAW(TIPS TO EXCEL WITHOUT DIFFICULTY)PART1

WELCOME TO BENUE STATE UNIVERSITY (B.S.U)
I guess by now you must have heard a lot about where you find yourself, be it positive or negative, it’s natural and bound to happen most especially when you find yourself in a new environment and you are a JJC in that field or sphere of life. You are not only inquisitive to finding answers to questions but also to knowing and distinguishing from your left and right so as to avoid being confused and landing into same problems most people(those ahead of you) landed themselves into. i.e learning from their mistakes.
I will restrict this article to the law students but subsequent ones will cover other departments. Though very important facts can still be extracted from this article by non-law students. After all there is a saying that “NO KNOWLEDGE IS WASTED” and above all “INFORMATION (KNOWLEDGE) IS POWER”.
I know before you were offered admission to study law, you had the opportunity to at least approximately guess how many students applied with you to study law and the percentage of assurance you had to be offered admission this course of your choice to study. Notwithstanding that fact, you had your own plans to make the necessary connection so that in case plan A fails, plan B will work.
Law is not only a practicing profession but also an applied profession, the stress of developing reading and study skills as a law student is very vital and essential. In your year1; you will discover you are offering only one law core course which is Legal Methods, this does not mean you won’t take other courses serious. It is even more important to take other courses serious so you can lay a good foundation by building a rooted G.P to help you up to your 500level.
Also there are some key points you have to note which will enable you excel in your year one. Some of which are
§  Your introduction to write ups.
§  A strong body content
§  A conclusion
§  Hit the major point of discussion in write ups before you talk less important things
§  Never underrate assignments given to you. E.g “go and make research on this , just read it (it might be a test or exam question)
§  Always make sure your Test is above 25
§  Make use of past questions, repetition is a key element.
All these and many others in my subsequent articles will be elaborated more.

Before I delve into analyzing each course and what you should expect, it’s very important to boost your nerves so you can know the kind of minds needed in B.S.U and the faculty of law.

It is no longer news that you are a law student and your friends and family members now call you Barrister-Lawyer, it’s wonderful…it is still no news that you will spend 5years in school unlike your mates in other departments who are aiming 4years. Now let’s work it out using statistics;

Ile-Ife Crisis: Stop provoking Hausa people, AYCF warns Yoruba organisations

The Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) has warned Yoruba groups including the Afenifere over comments credited to the latter over the recent killings in Ile-Ife, Osun state.

A clash between the Hausa community and the indigenes of Ile-Ife on March 8, 2017 led to the death of some Nigerians, most of them reportedly from the north.
The Nigeria police had waded into the crisis and arrested some people. However, some Yoruba groups have kicked saying that only Yorubas were arrested.
The leader of the AYCF, Alhaji Yerima Shettima, said the comments from the Yoruba groups amounted to a gang-up to harass and intimidate the courts and the police from investigating and punishing those found guilty so that a repeat of the sad episode would be avoided.
“We take exception to those marauders who are hiding behind ethnic umbrella and are desperately trying to pervert the course of justice.
“We are cautioning them to tread carefully so that their latest action would not provoke reprisal attacks, because this is an important period in the history of this nation, when all compatriots are working hard to address the multiple challenges confronting the nation, economically, politically and socially,” AYCF said.
The northern group reminded the Afenifere that the Hausas have displayed maturity by not going after the millions of Yoruba citizens doing business in their region.
“This is a demonstration of respect for the rule of law and not cowardice. We are aware that no one has the monopoly of violence or creating hot-air balloons in order to cover up an organized attack on people doing legitimate business in any party of our country.
“We watched with dismay, how the Afenifere is beginning to fan the embers of hatred against the victims and creating heroes out of the attackers. This amounts to a subtle ethnic cleansing campaign and we wish to warn Afenifere and its paymasters to shun such a dangerous act.
“It was unfortunate that a few loquacious Yoruba sons have joined the bandwagon by shouting to the roof tops, in a calculated attempt to dissuade the courts and law enforcement agencies from doing the needful.
“For the records, one-time vice presidential candidate in the 2007 elections, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has launched a negative campaign against the Nigerian police for detecting and carrying out the arrest of prime suspects in the clash. Other tribal champions include Femi Fani-Kayode; and the Yoruba Youth Council (YYC), which bought airtime on Channels TV, just to condemn the arrest of the suspects,” AYCF said.
AYCF added: “Let the Afenifere and their fellow collaborators in this massive cover-up campaign bear in mind that we, the Northerners, are watching and if we were not law-abiding, we would have followed the same path of ethnic antagonism and defending the indefensible.
“We can only stress that this is a crucial moment in the history of this nation and the most important thing is how to move forward in all spheres by shunning acts capable of breeding large-scale violence in the North in the name of reprisal attacks
“To make matters worse, it is in the news that Afenifere has hired eight SANS who have. s is unacceptable and the Nigerian law knows no sacred cows, whoever breaks the law must be made to face the consequences of his deeds, no matter how highly placed. No amount of media propaganda should be allowed to make the innocent people killed in Ile-Ife to look like sacrificial lambs.
“We urge the Nigerian judiciary to let justice take its full course and ignore the ranting of tribal jingoists, masquerading as champions of ethnic cleansing agenda.
“It is now evident that Afenifere has openly endorsed the killings, especially as they were all quiet when the killings were going on and shamelessly came out after the arrests by security agents have been made. Let this be last time anyone would be shielded for killing fellow citizens in the name of ethnic or tribal agenda. We have had enough of this rubbish.”

Parents of NAF personnel murdered by jealous lover finally speak out

The parents of the slain Nigerian Air Force personnel, Solape Oladipupo, who was killed by her colleague and jealous lover, Bernard Kalu, has revealed that their daughter ended the relationship after they told her about a prophecy they received in church, which warned the deceased against engaging in any romantic relationship in her place of work, Daily Sun reports.
Mr. and Mrs. Tolani Oladipupo also revealed that the deceased already has a five year-old daughter.
Solape was 16 years when she gave birth to the girl, who currently lives with them.
Solape, who was popularly known as Shomzy was murdered by her jealous lover over the suspicion of infidelity in Makurdi, Benue State on March 12th. She was buried last Thursday, at the cemetery in Ojo Military Barracks, Ojo, Lagos. Her mother collapsed and fainted as the remains was being lowered.
Speaking with Sunday Sun in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Mrs. Oladipupo said that the family received a prophecy warning the deceased against engaging in any relationship with anybody at her base in Makurdi.
She further revealed that her daughter was planning on ending the relationship shortly before she was murdered.
.
"We were given a prophecy in our church to tell her not to ever date anyone where she worked and we told her. That was when she decided to part ways with Kalu. We didn’t know it was going to lead to this. Even one of her uncles called her to tell her. I think that was how she took the bold step to tell Kalu she wasn’t interested in the relationship anymore. We didn’t know it would result in this. Her father and I gave her a stern warning not to ever get involved in any romantic relationship with anyone within her base,” she said.
Speaking in an emotion-laden voice shortly after Solape’s remains were interred, the deceased’s father, Mr. Tolani Oladidupo, who described her death as a huge loss said getting justice for the deceased would be a major source of succour for the family.
“Her death is a huge loss to us and we can’t just express how much of pains and agony we share as a family over the death of Solape. You can see that I am just trying to be a man, pacifying my wife and children. I insist that what can provide a kind of succour to us as a family is to see government do something about the case.
"I can say her death is our own sacrifice to the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. We cannot wake her up again and I am not here to trade my late daughter, but the government should do the needful,” he said, insisting on death penalty for his daughter’s killer.
How did you get the news of your daughter’s death?
When I received the new I became unconscious and fainted immediately. When I was resuscitated, it was still like a dream to me. I still spoke with her the day before she was murdered. I have lost over 70% weight, right now. When we were talking that night, she even said was going to speak with her daughter, and she did.
You mean she had a child already?
Yes (showing our reporter the child).
What’s the name of her child?
Her name is Bisola Ogunyemi.
And as it is now, how are you taking the loss?
The person who killed my daughter won’t go unpunished. He has said he was going to die too and he should be made to die. In a situation where Kalu’s family hires a lawyer to defend him, I will view it as an attempt to cheat us. I know justice would still prevail.
Did you have any premonition that such a thing would happen?
I have never thought I would lose anyone of them at all. In our church, we were given a prophecy to tell her not to ever date anyone where she worked and we told her. That was when she decided to part ways with Kalu. We didn’t know it was going to lead to this. Even one of her uncles called her to tell her. I think that was how she took the bold step to tell Kalu she wasn’t interested in the relationship any more. We didn’t know it would result in this. Her father and I gave her a stern warning not to ever get involved in any romantic relationship with anyone within her base. That was the prophecy we had. Yes, she told me about Kalu and that was why we had to accept one Sola, who was always calling me, although I have never met him.
Would you say you regret allowing your daughter join the military?
I won’t say that. No regret because the people there are humans too. There is no job that doesn’t come with its own risk. The rest there are humans too and some even grew very old on the job and retired. She had got an admission into the Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education before she was recruited into the Nigerian Air Force.
So, you don’t have any regret whatsoever?
No, I don’t have any regret. In fact, I don’t mind if the government can compensate the family by recruiting some of her siblings into the military.

Nigerian Soldiers Beat A Man To Death In Ogun State

A woman has claimed that her husband, Prince Adeola George Oyekan, died as a result of being brutally beaten by four Nigerian soldiers. Glory Fagbayibi told our correspondent that the four soldiers gave a severe beating to her husband at the instance of the landlady of 10 Prince Jamiu Oyebade Street, near Car Wash bus stop in Ogijo, Ogun State. She added that her husband, who owed the landlady a month’s rent, died 15 days after the assault.

                               A Nigerian soldier
woman has claimed that her husband, Prince Adeola George Oyekan, died as a result of being brutally beaten by four Nigerian soldiers.
Mrs. Fagbayibi stated that she and her husband were in the same room when four soldiers, led by the landlady’s son, whom she only identified as Tunji, barged into their apartment and descended on her husband. She added that, after assaulting her husband, the soldiers bundled him into a van and drove him to 174 Battalion barracks at Ogijo where he was further brutalized.
According to the widow and other sources in the area, the landlady’s son, Tunji, invited his soldier friend, Godswill George, from Ikeja cantonment. The sources alleged that Godswill George then mobilized other soldiers from 174 Battalion to join him in the assault that led to the death of Mr. Oyekan.
Our correspondent learned that, upon his release by the soldiers, the victim filed a complaint at the Ogijo Divisional Headquarters of the Nigerian police. “We went to Ogijo police station to lodge a complaint,” said Mrs. Fagbayibi. She added: “The police took pictures of my husband and asked if we would like the issue to get to court. The police ordered the landlady and his son to pay for the medical treatment of my husband, but up till the death of my husband, they did not pay anything.”
She continued: “Both the landlady and her son fled for some days, but the police were able to apprehend them and keep them in detention.”
An aunt of the deceased told SaharaReporters that the hospital where George was admitted for treatment stated that the cause of death was internal bleeding caused by the severe beating from the soldiers.
A referral note seen by our correspondent stated that the deceased was referred from Pillar Hospital, where he was initially seen, to Ikorodu General Hospital for some dental procedure. Mr. Oyekan’s stated that five broken teeth were removed from her late husband’s mouth.
“A few days after the beating, and with continuous pain in my husband’s mouth, we took him to the hospital for a checkup. Not less than five of his teeth were removed. Pillar Hospital then referred us to Ikorodu General Hospital for further treatment when they could no longer handle his condition,” the widow said.
One of Mr. Oyekan’s cousins said she went with the wife of the deceased to the army barracks to plead with the soldiers beating Mr. Oyekan. She said they found her late cousin hung to a tree as two soldiers repeatedly flogged him. She added that, while she and the victim’s wife were still begging, the soldiers ordered Mr. Oyekan to cut an area of grass in the barracks as the soldiers continued to beat him.
“I went with my cousin’s wife to 174 Battalion. When we got there, we were shocked to see how my cousin had been disfigured due to the beating he had received. I saw my late cousin hung on a tree, being beaten by two soldiers. While we were still there pleading for him to be released, one of the soldiers gave him cutlass to cut some of the grass in the barracks,” said the aggrieved cousin.
The victim’s widow said her husband was unable to stand upright after the pummeling he suffered at the hands of soldiers. She added that, upon his release, her husband was unable to go work. Instead, he remained bedridden before he passed away.

SaharaReporters learned that Mr. Oyekan, a prince in the Oyekan royal family, worked at the Apapa wharf. A family source said the late Oyekan was forty years old, but the hospital referral listed his age as thirty-seven.

Igbo would have been President if they understood Nigerian politics – Igbokwe

•Asks Obasanjo not to complicate S-East presidential bid Joe Igbokwe is the Publicity Secretary of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos State.  In this interview, Igbokwe speaks on the clamour for Igbo presidency in 2019, among other issues of national importance.

By Olasunkanmi Akoni
What is your assessment of the APC FG-led administration in the last two years? We have recorded monumental achievements. Though, people want to see achievements in terms of  money or food on their table, we have embarked on laying a very important foundation to transform Nigeria from a corrupt nation to a progressive one. If one does not have the third eye, he or she may not see it. We all know that corruption is a hydra-headed monster in this country.

And the President has declared war against things that affect the development of the country. This is because we have lost several years without nothing being done and that is why we have infrastructural decay. For over 16 years, we battled to make available 10,000 megawatts of electricity in spite of the huge funds allocated to the sector annually. And it is pathetic that yearly, we are regaled with the same story from the administrators of the sector.
The present administration has decided to address the issues and make the country great again. For instance, the man at the head of the administration, President Muhammadu Buhari, went into the judicial system and exposed the corruption within the third tier of government. And this is one area that many never dared to put their searchlight on.
Meanwhile, people who don’t want this country to move forward following the war declared against corruption are fighting back and some people are wishing the President dead. I remember that before the 2015 elections, I prophesied that APC will win but events thereafter will not be rosy. And that corrupt elements will fight back after accumulating resources over the years. Don’t forget that it took the progressives about 30 years to come to power.
I remember that the journey for the progressives started in 1985. Between that time and 1993, we had M.K.O Abiola but they killed in 1998.  Despite winning the election that was free and fair, they could not accept the man’s presidency. Many Yoruba leaders were jailed while others were chased out of the country. Others killed at that time include Suliat Adedeji, Kudirat Abiola. Those killed were big guns in South-West. The loss suffered by the region led to the emergence of President Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999. The North couldn’t provide any presidential candidate as the South-West produced the two presidential candidates. We (progressives) were robbed in 1999 because Obasanjo wasn’t the South-West candidate. It was Chief Olu Falae. It was those forces against the progressives that ensured Obasanjo emerged as President. And one can’t go far before understanding the  reasons Obasanjo’s region didn’t vote for him even in his ward, council, state and the entire South-West. And when OBJ was asked before the elections, Villa, he responded that he didn’t forget anything in the seat of power. It was strange to him that some forces wanted him in power. Obasanjo was almost dead in jail. If you ask Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, he will tell you OBJ did nothing for the South-West for eight years. This is because he wasn’t prepared for the post. He didn’t know what to do after assuming office. It was after two years that he got his bearing. After 1999, we struggled again to get a progressive into power. It started with Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Lagos State and, today, we have a progressive in power at the federal level. Two years after we assumed power, Nigerians have started complaining that they haven’t seen the change promised by the administration. But I want to urge them to look deeper. They should open their eyes and see the plans the  administration has for this country. First, the Buhari-led administration has started the diversification of the country’s source of income. Before this administration, we could not achieve our oil quota because militants threatened that if former President Goodluck Jonathan did not win, they will cripple the economy. And we have seen it. They have blown up gas pipelines and other facilities in the Niger-Delta region. And that is why we could not achieve stability in power supply. Also, the price of crude oil dropped. That is why the Buhari administration has decided to look towards agriculture, especially rice production, on which huge money was spent yearly on its importation. And Lagos, Kebbi and others have taken the lead. I know that before the end of 2018, the country would have achieved so much. What gives you that confidence that Nigeria will achieve great things by the end of 2018? First is the President because the buck stops on his table. We are not praying for the demise of Mr. President but, if anything happens to him today, government will continue.
He has a competent Vice President that will take over the affairs of government. The President is human like the over 170 million Nigerians, who can fall sick. This is the only President that has allowed his vice to run the affairs of the country. Obasanjo didn’t do that for Atiku and the late Musa Yar Adua didn’t do it for Jonathan. Those leaders who didn’t sign-off to allow their vice run government affairs took us 30 years behind civilization. After the bombing of the World Trade Centre in the United States, do you know how many years it took the government to clear the ground? If I am to bomb Lagos, it would not take one more than 25 minutes to bring the state to a standstill. And don’t forget that it took several years before Lagos could achieve all it has at present. To return the state after the act would require years. Building this country is not a tea-party. Nigeria is like a broken city, a city after war. When one examines the system, one will realize that in the oil sector, there isn’t enough money; infrastructure, we don’t have. And having infrastructure could help make the country a destination for tourists just like Dubai in United Arab Emirate (UAE).

We need to build and it requires time to build a broken city. Aside time, you need huge funds and there is no money currently at the disposal of this government. So it requires the government to look inward. And looking inward, the government introduced TSA and shut about 20,000 accounts. No government before Buhari aimed to build Nigeria. The building of Nigeria has just started. It is pathetic that previous governments, whenever they visited foreign countries, didn’t copy what they saw to improve Nigeria. For eight years, former Governor Babatunde Fashola begged the Federal Government to handover the Airport Road to him, the PDP-led government refused. I know what it took the government before it could secure the release of Ikorodu Road to allow the construction of the BRT lane. I understand the struggle because when we gave telecom operators the permission to lay fibre optic cables, we were challenged by the Federal Ministry of Works; claiming that the road belongs to the central government and that the state did not have the right to give anyone the road to lay cable. I approached Fashola, who gave me the papers signed by ex-President Obasanjo which indicated that the road had been handed over to the state government. I remember that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu wanted to build a power station that would have improved power supply in the state but the Federal Government kicked against the project because they knew that immediately Lagos is removed from the sector, it would be reduced to nothing. In order to prevent the plan, the then administration kept on saying that the power sector was an Exclusive List. That is why Fashola decided to build six small power stations to provide electriity for government offices, hospitals and other government projects. What is your view on the claim that your party does not have the blueprint to move Nigeria forward? Don’t forget that Buhari was a  minister, head of state and he had contested for the presidency thrice before winning in 2015. And if anyone says he didn’t have blueprint for the country, then the person doesn’t know what he is saying. Nigerians are also saying that Buhari’s policies are anti-people, especially with the ban placed on the importation of some items. What do you say to this? I remember that when India banned the importation of textiles, the citizens of that country wondererd what will they wear? And they were asked to go naked. But, today, the country has one of the largest textile industries in the world. And the policy banning rice importation has started yielding result. One of the results is LAKE rice. For years, I have been hearing about Abakaliki rice and they have not moved it beyond the primitive stage. If we fail to close the door, we will not achieve anything. What do you think can bring unity between the Yoruba and Igbo? Until the Igbo wake up from their slumber, they will not realise the need for cooperation. The 1993 presidential election provided the Igbo the opportunity to cement their relationship with the South-West because we needed to bridge that gap.

The North was able to actualize the annulment of that election because the Igbo failed to stand with the Yoruba. It was only a few of us who stood with Abiola – myself, Ndubuisi Kanu, Payne Jackson – among others. When we put the issue before our people, they claimed that the Igbo had fought their own civil war and that it was the turn of the Yoruba to fight their own.  I like the ruggedness of the Yoruba. While the Yoruba were confronting their issues, the Igbo were busy clapping and that is why we warned them that if with the sophistication of Yoruba leaders and this was happening to them, the Igbo weren’t safe. I wrote in my book that I didn’t know that I was a slave in Nigeria until Abiola won the 1993 presidential election. If Abiola with his calibre could be treated that way, it baffled me then. Kudirat Abiola was killed to provoke the Yoruba to war. And the aim was to destroy Lagos. But Bola Ige said no. If it was the Igbo that were provoked like the Yoruba, there could have been another war. But the Yoruba resisted the North’s temptation and they decided to use their pens and newspapers to fight the war. Why are Igbo always divided on the issues affecting the country? They don’t understand Nigerian politics. And that is my problem with them. Nigerian politics is not business. After the demise of Yar Adua, what I expected the Igbo to do was to ask Jonathan to finish the four years of Yar Adua and allow the North to have their eight years. And by 2015, the President would have come to the South-East. They (Igbo) were cajoled with the belief that no one could defeat the incumbent. But Jonathan appointed some Igbo in his cabinet The question you should ask is, what value did the appointments add to the South-East? And what did Obasanjo’s eight years give to South-West? We had six ministers from the South-East in Jonathan’s cabinet. And did they add any value to the South-East. People must begin to understand that once they assume any position, it isn’t for their friends and families, rather it is for everyone. One man had the opportunity to build the Onitsha airport while serving as Obasanjo’s close aide but declined, arguing that he would start the job when he became the governor of the state. But fortune didn’t favour him because two weeks after he was sworn-in as governor, he was sacked. It is pathetic that my people don’t know how to play politics. When do you think it will be ripe for the Igbo to vie to be President? It is simple. The time for the South-East is 2023. But Obasanjo said that 2019 should be the year. The ex-President is about creating another crisis for the South-East. The North will spend their eight years. I want the Igbo to understand that they must support others before they can also receive support. The North hasn’t finished their eight years. What the late Yar’Adua did wasn’t up to eight years. We want them to finish their two terms before we step in. If this is done, there will be no complaint  from northerners that they have been short-changed. There is a caveat for the Igbo to get  power and that is pitching their tent with APC. Do you see APC ruling Nigeria for eight years with the state of the country and the economy? APC will rule Nigerian for many years to come. Do you see Bola Tinubu, national leader of your party, leaving to form a mega party? I can assure you that Asiwaju can never leave APC.One cannot build a house and destroy it overnight. It is our duty to make APC succeed. Mega party is a figment of imagination of some people. If we  leave the APC, how do you want Nigerians to take us serious? Don’t forget where we were coming from- AD, AC, ACN. Asiwaju is done with forming new parties.

I can assure you that Buhari will rule this country for eight years. And those complaining now will come to eat the humble pie. What President Buhari planned for Nigeria was what Singaporean ex-President, Lee Kuan Yew, did for his country. It is sad that people don’t believe in foundation and it is that foundation that determines the longevity of the structure.

Drama in Abuja, as police deny arresting Peace Corps boss

  - The Nigeria police force has said it did not infringe on the rights of Dickson Akoh who is the bss of the Nigerian Peace Corps - Police also denied sealing off the National Headquarters and State offices of the Peace Corps The Nigeria Police Force in a counter affidavit dated 22nd March 2017, and deposed to, before a Federal High Court in Abuja; has absolved itself of any wrong doing in its dealings with the Nigerian Peace Corps. Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court, Abuja, had on Thursday, 16th March, 2017, issued a 12-day ultimatum to the Nigeria Police, to give reasons for the arrest, harassment and detention of Akoh and 49 others. In a 20-paragraph counter affidavit submitted to the Court on Wednesday, 22nd March, and signed by one Sgt. Philip Tumba of a CID unit, FCT Command, the police alleged that the peace corps was police alleged that the peace corps was "organizing military like training" for its officers. "None of the applicants or any person whatsoever was manhandled, brutalized or harassed or intimidated by any of its personnel as falsely claimed. Drama in Abuja, as police deny arresting Peace Corps boss "The Respondents did not invade or brutalized the applicants but only went to a suspected scene of crime in the lawful performance of its statutory duties to carry out investigation", the counter affidavit reads in part. READ ALSO: Soldiers step in as Delta community protests against Chevron over electricity supply While also denying the sealing off of the National office of Peace Corps, the police said, " The Respondents only cordoned a scene of crime to secure it for further and detail investigation". NAIJ.com gathered that the force totally disagreed with the affidavit submitted by the Incorporated Trustees of Peace Corps of Nigeria in support of its originating summon, that the rights of Akoh and the 49 others was trampled upon. It could be recalled that, the Nigeria Police and the Department of State Security (DSS) raided the National Office of Peace Corps on Tuesday, 28th February, 2017, arresting the National Commandant, Akoh and 49 others. They were allegedly detained at the Police facilities for 3 days, without food, water and the young nursing mothers among them were denied access to their babies, for the period of detention. According to Daily Post 6 of the Peace Corps Officers were physically tortured during the arrest and 3 were lying critically unconscious at the National Hospital, Abuja. A visit to the Trauma Unit at the National Hospital by Journalists on Wednesday, 1st March, 2017 also confirmed the admission of those who sustained injuries from Police brutality. Addressing Journalists at the National Hospital, the Spokesperson for the hospital management, Dr. Tayo Armstrong, said "in our investigation, we were told that they were working for Peace Corps, and that, the Police came to assault them, that's why they sustained injuries. "As a responsive hospital, we immediately admitted them into our trauma centre, so we could promptly attend to their health issues. As I speak to you, they are still in trauma centre". Irked by the seemingly violation of their rights, the Incorporated Trustees of the Peace Corps of Nigeria, through former Attorney General of Nigeria, Kanu Agabi (SAN), dragged the Nigeria Police and DSS to Court, demanding for N2bn compensation. In a swift reaction, the Nigeria Police also slammed the Peace Corps with a 90-count charge, demanding for N1.4bn. The 2 suites are currently being heard by Justice Kolawole of the Federal High Court, Abuja. At the time of this report, The National Commandant who surrendered himself to Police had been in detention since last Sunday as all efforts by eminent Nigerians including legal practitioners to secure administrative bail for him from Police have been rebuffed.

In the Internet era, an arm of journalism that focuses on fake news is emerging. This trend of fake news is more prominent in the US, Europe and Asian countries. While some fake news is produced purposefully by bloggers seeking to make money from advertising, false information can also arise from misinformed social media posts by regular people that are seized on and spread through a hyper blogosphere.

QUEENS COLLEGE: Fear grips parents as more students fall ill

ByBy Elizabeth Uwandu

lagos—The last has not been heard about the Queens College health saga as a more students of the school are being hospitalised even as parents have renewed calls for investigations into circumstances surrounding the deaths of two students, Vivian Osainiyi and Bithia Itulua.

Vanguard gathered that two of the sick students are currently on admission at the Child Emergency Unit of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, Idi-Araba, and another is under observation at the University of Lagos Medical Centre.

The first girl, an SS1 student named Joy, was in a critical condition when she was rushed to the Emergency Unit of the hospital by her parents Friday last week.
Her mother, who spoke to Vanguard, said she (Joy) was incoherent even after she was admitted.
“She was running temperature, vomiting and stooling. We had to rush her to LUTH. You can see my daughter, at a point here in the hospital, she was saying things that were not discernible. That scared me and I started calling on God for healing.”
Corroborating his wife’s claims, Joy’s father confirmed she was under close observation but responding to treatment.
“Due to my state of mind, I can’t say much. But it is a fact that my daughter had infection and diarrhoea,” he stated.
The second girl on admission, Muninat, a JSS 3 student was said to be responding to treatment, according to her father.
“Well, I can’t say much. But God bless the new principal who has been going from one hospital to the other to visit the students. For now, my daughter is in critical condition, but she is still breathing. Although, I can’t tell you what is wrong with her now as we are still running tests on her. The symptoms that made us rush her here were stooling and vomiting with severe headache and high body temperature,” the dad said.
One Mr. Ajumobi, also a parent said his daughters fell sick after they returned home for the mid-term break.
When contacted on phone, he said: “Yes, my two daughters at Queens College were both sick. But the older one in SS3 first started complaining of stomach pains and was treated after they came back for the break. What baffled me was that on Tuesday this week, the younger girl in JSS 3 started complaining of the same pain of the lower abdomen. Hence, we had to rush her to the hospital, where she is still receiving treatment now.’’

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has given Fulani herdsmen in Tombo-Mbalagh, Buruku Local Government Area of the state a two-day ultimatum to leave the community.

The order was given by the governor on Monday in Tombo-Mbalagh during a visit to ascertain the casualties and damage inflicted on the community by herdsmen.
Ortom’s visit is coming on the back of the recent attacks on the community by the cattle rustlers during the weekend.
Speaking on the attacks, the Sole Administrator for the council area, Mrs Justina Sorkaa, said eight bodies have been recovered, while three persons are missing.
Sorkaa’s account was contradicted by the state police commissioner, Bashir Makama, who insisted that six persons died in the attack.
Ortom said that he had directed security agencies as a matter of urgency to lead herdsmen out of the area for peace to reign.
He said the herdsmen must leave since they were not welcomed by the unarmed inhabitants of the area.
It is understood that majority of the resident in the state were disarmed through the amnesty programme executed by the Ortom administration in 2015.
”Some of the displaced persons have moved in with their relations in Buruku town and those who do not have anywhere to go are with us in an improvised IDP camp here at St Peter’s Anglican Primary School, Imenger,”the Sole Administrator, Mrs Justina Sorkaa said.
ULTIMATE STATE OF MIND ON XEONonair A BIRD IN HAND (for more stories, go to www.xeononair.blogspot.com) And so goes the story-I was very depressed, I was sad, I felt betrayed, I felt used, i remember that evening so well. It’s very hard to forget. It was that night when I was on my knees begging and pleading for her to reconsider her decision, she wouldn’t just end the relationship like that; oh no she couldn’t. I’ve invested so much in time, effort, love and resources for everything to just end the way she wants it. mind has been made up, from the very first day we met , my mind was made up to marry her. I remember this meeting; three years ago, she was so outstanding at the house warming ceremony at high level that late afternoon. She was talking and laughing and dancing with her friends and i couldn’t resist having a word or two with her. Hence when the opportunity came, I walked up to her, introduced myself and we began to chat. Two hours later, we were still talking, the chemistry and interest was almost magical, we seem to have had everything in common, life philosophies, passion, entertainment, friendships, views about the future and even fashion. It was so overwhelming I was convinced i had at last found my better half, like they say. She was warm and friendly; a good listener showing interest in everything I had to say . She also had this natural leadership trait that made all her friends look up to her, her parents were relatively wealthy hence she could afford to wear the best. She had it all; the content, the container. I was done with school and was still waiting for my posting to NYSC, she was done with her diploma program at the college of advance and professional studies also known as CAPS Makurdi and was trying to secure a direct entry to study her preferred course. After the house warming ceremony that day we wouldn’t stop talking, we chatted all day and night and shared details of everything we were doing at nearly every point in time. What are you wearing/ what are you eating? Where are you now? Are you going out? When? Who are you with? What are you talking about? Take a picture and send, send me a voice note, send me the joke and all that goes with a fun and fantastic love affair. We missed each other greatly and we tried to be together at least every other day; so close and so intimate was the relationship. Everyone marvelled but were happy for us regarding this exciting new found love. My parents loved her and her parents believed I was the best choice of any form of choice ever made by their daughter, I was already more or less a son-in-law and our siblings were already friends and hanging out with each other. It was as good as that. Six months later i was posted to the East for my NYSC and she secured a direct entry admission with UNAD in Ekiti state. The separation was a painful but necessary one. A night before my departure to serve, we were together at the park in warm embrace, she had tears in her eyes and so did I, we couldn’t believe we would be so far away from each other for so long, yes my service year was for a year but her program at UNAD was for another 3-4 years. It would take a long while for us to be together permanently in Makurdi again. The immediate future didn’t look very exciting but course was necessary. We hugged, cried, kissed and wouldn’t let go of each other until finally it was time for me to leave; the flight luxurious bus began to move, I ran up, caught it and went in, I kept looking back and i saw her still standing on the same spot looking at the bus too sad and lonely to wave, it was a painful but necessary departure. All through my service year i would save half of my income and allowances and travel all the way from Afikpo to Ado Ekiti to see her. It was a regular ritual. Every last weekend of the month I’m off to Ado Ekiti, the journey wasn’t a big deal, the sheer thought of seeing my woman again made the journey pretty short. Hence this last month of my service year, I was in her room as usual but this time begging her to reconsider her position to end the relationship. She has no excuse, no reason and I had done nothing wrong; she’s just tired and wanted it to end. It wasn’t even about the investment in time, sweat, love, resources and passion. It was facing the reality of the separation; a permanent separation, the dream of marrying her becoming a pipe dream, I couldn’t stand it, I couldn’t handle it, I knelt down begging , she wouldn’t listen, her mind was made up, she walked out of the room leaving me there still on my knees. What did I do wrong? What was my crime? How have I wronged her? I was perplexed, shocked and definitely heartbroken. How I coped through that season of my return to Lagos I do not know, how I survived the loneliness and hurt of rejection I do not know but somehow I survived. I came back to Makurdi, commenced my job hunt and tried to go over my hurt and heartbreak. Luckily within six months of my return to Makurdi i got a job with a leading multinational, i was with the sales team so i got a brand new official car for my sales activities and also relocated to Abuja where my company is base. Almost a year afterwards, I visited my family in Makurdi and was about returning to Abuja; i was driving through North bank Makurdi heading for Abuja and my ex –girlfriend’s younger sister waved me down, I stopped i was glad to see her, and i parked my car at the eatery close by to have a chat with her. The young lady was worried and a bit upset. She began to speak, it’s a long story ‘’Egbon’’, you see the reason why my sister broke up with you was because she met a man at an event in Akure, this man came from port Harcourt; he’s an oil company worker. He showed interest in my elder sister and immediately began to shower her with lots of cash and gifts. After this event at Akure the man kept coming back to see my sister at school and after about a month came t the house with a lot of money and gifts for my parents promising to marry my sister and make her happy. My parents advised my sister to forget about you and marry this man from port Harcourt. The oil company guy from Port Harcourt was already made; he was very rich and you were just a struggling corp member. So my parents persuaded my sister to dump you for him. Four months after my sister broke up with you, she decided to go visit this new boyfriend in Port Harcourt Uninvited; She wanted to surprise him and on reaching his house, she discovered he was already married with two children. My sister was devastated, heartbroken and is yet to recover till now. She doesn’t even know how to face you or apologize, Egbon, I’m here to plead on her behalf please forgive her, it is the devil’s handiwork. Where is she now? Hmmm she’s at home o, that wicked man from Port Harcourt asked her to give up her admission at UNAD that he would secure admission for her at Uniport, as he wanted to marry her immediately and will want his wife to be in the same city and go to school from home, so my sister dropped out of school with the support of my parents and was waiting for the Port Harcourt oil company worker to complete her admission process at Uniport. In fact it was part of the reasons my sister travelled to surprise him in Port Harcourt before discovering he was already married with children. Hmmm, i looked up and down, I was sad, I was angry, i was disappointed, so this girl dumped me for another man after all we shared and all I sacrificed for her. Worse still her parents were in the know and supported her callous act. I also felt sorry for her; I guess I still had the soft spot for her. But i concluded she is unworthy of me, if she did it once, she will do it again. I stood up, I’m sorry I can’t help you guys; I dropped some money on the table at the eatery, into the bright sunlight with tears welling up in my eyes. Ladies and Gentlemen what do you have, what do you want, what do you really need? It is quite important for us as a people to think thoroughly before we act or move on anything in this life. Because nothing in this life is perfect and flawless, wisdom is to learn to accept the weakness and embrace the strength in anyone we have and love them like that. I assure you, married or single there is always someone out there who would appear, sound and behave better than your partner at different times. What you see clearly is what they have and your partner lacks, what you don’t see is what they lack but your partner has got and is so critical to your relationship. Decide today to cherish and appreciate what you have, love them, celebrate them and appreciate them. Don’t let go of that bird in your hand for that one looking so good in the bush. p>Pages: 1 2 3 4
